Day 02 – Journey into the Heart of the Pantanal
After breakfast, we’ll set off on our adventure, driving for a couple of hours on paved roads until we reach the gateway to the Transpantaneira, a legendary 147 km (91 mile) dirt road that cuts through the vast Pantanal wetlands, crossing no fewer than 122 wooden bridges.
Few vehicles brave this remote route each day, and as we travel deeper into this wild landscape, the abundance of wildlife will begin to unfold around us. It’s not uncommon to spot caimans, capybaras, and a stunning array of birdlife even before we reach our lodge.
Upon arrival at Fazenda Santa Teresa Pantanal Lodge, we’ll enjoy a hearty lunch before heading out on our first afternoon excursion, exploring the vibrant ecosystem that makes this region one of the richest wildlife sanctuaries on Earth.
Overnight: Fazenda Santa Teresa Pantanal Lodge

Day 03 – Into Jaguarland: Drive to Porto Jofre & First Jaguar Safari
This morning, we’ll leave our cozy lodge behind and continue our journey down the iconic Transpantaneira. As we drive deeper into the Pantanal, the landscape becomes increasingly wild and untamed, with every stretch of road offering new opportunities to spot wildlife; from giant jabirus to marsh deer and howler monkeys.
By midday, we’ll arrive at Porto Jofre, where we’ll hop into our private skiffs for a short and scenic ride along the river to our floating home for the next few nights: The Naturezas Ship.
Comfortable and beautifully positioned, the Naturezas is the only vessel of its kind in the region, anchored right in the heart of “Jaguarland”, the best place in the world to observe wild jaguars. Its location gives us unrivaled access to prime jaguar territory, allowing us to maximize our time on the water and minimize travel distances.
After settling in and enjoying a delicious lunch onboard, we’ll set out in our skiffs for our first afternoon jaguar safari. As we navigate the river channels, we’ll keep our eyes peeled for the big cats that call this region home, along with giant river otters, capybaras, caimans, and a variety of birdlife.
Overnight: Naturezas Ship – Jaguarland
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 04 – In the Realm of Jaguars: Full Day Exploring the Pantanal
Today, we immerse ourselves fully in the extraordinary wilderness of the northern Pantanal. While jaguars are certainly the stars of the show, this vast floodplain, roughly the size of the United Kingdom, is teeming with life at every turn.
Set at the ecological crossroads of the Amazon Rainforest and the Atlantic Forest, the Pantanal is one of the most biologically rich regions on the planet. Once known primarily as a haven for birdwatchers and fishermen, it is now internationally recognized for having the highest concentration of wild jaguars in the world. Its mosaic of winding rivers, dense vegetation, and open marshes creates the perfect setting for these elusive predators, who here grow to their largest recorded sizes thanks to an abundant supply of prey like capybaras and caimans.
We’ll head out on both morning and afternoon excursions by skiff, exploring the remote river channels and gallery forests that jaguars favor. Along the way, we’ll also encounter a wide range of other remarkable species: From giant river otters and anacondas to hundreds of species of birds, including hyacinth macaws and kingfishers.
With around eight hours on the water, we’ll have ample time to track, observe, and photograph the region’s unique wildlife while gaining a deeper understanding of this fascinating ecosystem.
Overnight: Naturezas Ship – Jaguarland
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Meals: B, L.

Day 05 – Deeper Into Jaguarland: Another Day of River Exploration
We greet another day in the heart of Jaguarland with anticipation and curiosity, ready to uncover more of the secrets held within this incredible stretch of the Pantanal. As the day unfolds and the sun casts its golden light across the winding rivers of the Pantanal, we set out once again aboard our skiffs to continue exploring this extraordinary region through this labyrinth of waterways and forested riverbanks.
By now, we’ve become familiar with the rhythms of this unique ecosystem, the stillness before a jaguar appears, the splash of a caiman slipping into the water, the calls of macaws echoing through the trees. But no two outings are ever the same, and today promises new encounters and fresh opportunities for awe.
We’ll continue tracking the region’s apex predator while staying alert for sightings of other remarkable wildlife, such as giant river otters playing in the shallows, families of capybaras grazing at the water’s edge, and raptors scanning the landscape from overhead.
Throughout the day, we’ll not only enjoy incredible wildlife viewing, but also deepen our understanding of the Pantanal’s complex and fragile ecosystem—one of the most vibrant natural habitats on Earth.
Overnight: Naturezas Ship – Jaguarland
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 06 – Where the river ends and memories begin
This morning, we’ll head out on one last wildlife excursion by skiff, soaking in the stillness of the river and savoring every final moment in this extraordinary realm of jaguars and untamed beauty.
After returning to our floating lodge, we’ll bid farewell to Jaguarland and begin our journey back along the legendary Transpantaneira. As we retrace our path northward, we’ll once again pass through the wild and ever changing landscapes of the Pantanal, with plenty of chances for unexpected wildlife sightings along the way.
We’ll arrive at Santa Tereza Lodge in time for a well earned lunch and a bit of rest before heading out on an afternoon excursion. Whether it’s birdwatching near the lodge or tracking the movements of marshland mammals, we’ll make the most of our final full day in the Pantanal.
As the sun dips low over the wetlands, painting the sky with rich colors, we’ll gather for a farewell dinner, celebrating the unforgettable journey we’ve shared and the wildlife encounters that have made it so special.
Overnight: Fazenda Santa Tereza Pantanal Lodge
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 07 – Golden dawn & Journey home
We begin our final day with an early climb to the lodge’s observation tower, where we’ll watch the first light of day stretch across the vast wetlands. As the sun rises over the Pantanal, casting golden hues across the landscape, we’ll take a quiet moment to reflect on the unforgettable journey we’ve shared.
After breakfast, we’ll set off on our return drive to Cuiabá. The journey takes approximately 3.5 hours, with the Transpantaneira still offering chances for spontaneous wildlife sightings, reminding us that in the Pantanal, the adventure never truly ends.
We’ll pause for a relaxed lunch along the way before arriving at the airport, where we bid farewell to our fellow explorers and to the wild heart of Brazil that brought us together.
For those not flying out today, we will gladly transfer you to your hotel in Cuiabá where you’ve made your own arrangements.

When to Go – Why November is our secret season
The best time to see jaguars in the Northern Pantanal is during the dry season, which runs from late June through early November. During these months, the floodwaters recede, concentrating wildlife along the riverbanks and making jaguar sightings more frequent and predictable.
While July through September are often considered the “peak season” for jaguar tourism, our small group journeys are intentionally scheduled for early November, and for very good reason.
Here’s why November is our secret season:
- Fewer tourists, more wildlife: By early November, the crowds have thinned, yet jaguar activity remains high. We often have large sections of Jaguarland nearly to ourselves, creating a more serene, intimate, and exclusive experience.
- Warmer water, better sightings: The late dry season brings higher temperatures, drawing jaguars to the riverbanks more often to cool off, resulting in more active and visible cats.
- Exceptional photographic light: November offers golden light, dramatic skies, and lush, changing landscapes, ideal conditions for photographers.
- Peak wildlife activity: Many species, from birds to mammals, become more active in the buildup to the rainy season. Giant otters, capybaras, and caimans are all frequently seen at close range.
- Still dry and navigable: Despite being close to the seasonal shift, early November is typically dry, and river conditions remain ideal for skiff explorations.
Our choice to travel in early November is based on years of experience and a deep understanding of the region’s rhythms. It’s when the Pantanal is at its most wild, raw, and rewarding, without sacrificing comfort or access.
How likely are we to see jaguars?
Our tours are designed to maximize your chances. The Northern Pantanal has the highest density of jaguars in the world, and we base ourselves for three nights on a private ship in the very heart of Jaguarland. While sightings are never guaranteed in nature, we enjoy extremely high success rates, often spotting multiple jaguars during the trip.
How physically demanding is this trip?
This is a moderate trip. Most outings are by comfortable skiffs, and walks are short and on flat terrain. There are no strenuous hikes, but participants should be able to step in and out of boats and manage warm weather conditions. Your expert guide (that’s me!) will always pace the experience with care and flexibility.
What kind of accommodations can I expect?
We stay in the best accommodations available in the region; a curated selection of properties that combine comfort, local charm, and privileged locations. Though the Pantanal remains a true wilderness and a hidden gem, far from the mainstream travel radar, our lodgings offer a high standard of service, air conditioned rooms, and private bathrooms. From our cozy lodge near the Transpantaneira to our exclusive, stationary ship in the heart of Jaguarland, every stay has been chosen to immerse us in nature without sacrificing comfort. It’s an authentic experience designed for discerning travelers who seek both adventure and refinement.
What is the group size?
To ensure a personal, immersive experience, we keep our groups small. Usually 6 to 11 travelers. This allows for more intimate wildlife encounters, flexible outings, and individualized attention throughout the journey.
What’s the weather like in early November?
Expect warm to hot daytime temperatures (80–95°F / 27–35°C), with cooler mornings and evenings. Rain is possible, but usually brief. The conditions are ideal for wildlife, especially jaguars, who are more active near the rivers at this time.
Can special dietary needs be accommodated?
Yes, with advance notice we’re happy to accommodate most dietary restrictions or preferences. Please let us know ahead of time so we can plan accordingly with our lodge and ship teams.
How do we get to the starting point?
The trip begins and ends in Cuiabá, a regional airport (CGB) with daily flights from São Paulo and other major Brazilian cities. We’ll meet you at the airport and handle all logistics from there.
Can I arrive early or stay longer in Cuiabá?
Absolutely. If you’re planning to arrive in Cuiabá before the tour or stay longer afterward, we can help arrange a seamless extension to your trip. Whether you’re interested in additional nights at a comfortable hotel, a curated pre or post tour extension, or simply a smooth transfer, we’re happy to assist. Just let us know your plans in advance, and we’ll take care of the logistics so you can relax and enjoy your time in Brazil.
Is travel insurance required?
We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, trip cancellation, and evacuation. The Pantanal is remote, and insurance adds peace of mind to your journey.
Visas:
Travelers from many countries—including the United States, Canada, the UK, EU nations, Australia, and New Zealand, generally do not require a visa for stays up to 90 days in Brazil. However, entry requirements can change, so we recommend confirming your visa status with your local Brazilian consulate or embassy well ahead of your trip. Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date.
Inoculations:
While no vaccinations are officially mandatory for entry into Brazil, we strongly recommend consulting your healthcare provider 6 to 8 weeks before departure. A yellow fever vaccination is highly advisable for travel in the Pantanal and surrounding regions, and proof of vaccination may be required when entering or leaving Brazil. Routine immunizations such as tetanus, diphtheria, polio, and hepatitis A are also recommended.
Though malaria risk in the Pantanal is low, protecting yourself against mosquitoes with repellent and appropriate clothing is essential for comfort and safety. We’ll provide detailed health preparation guidelines before departure, but your healthcare professional should be your primary resource for personalized advice.
